Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U13A vs  Marlborough House School
On: Wednesday, 05 Jun 2019
Venue: Away

On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the Saint Ronan’s Firsts went behind enemy lines, invading Marlborough House. A well coordinated attack was led by Admiral Arthur E who cleaned bowled both openers in his first over – a dream start! Meanwhile, Major Tom H dropped in from the Hawkhurst End and caught and bowled their number four batsmen to leave our opposition in a weakened position at 2 for three wickets, after just two overs. They quickly gathered their troops, determined to fight, but we continued to apply pressure and burst through their lines again when Field marshal Will D took a diving catch off Major Tom’s bowling. Our initial wave of attack was replaced by reinforcements: as Colonel Charlie kept them busy at one end, Lieutenant General Henry P launched a blistering thrust that claimed two wickets and left Marlborough House scrambling to defend. Sergeant Will H was our secret weapon - he so nearly took a hat-trick, finishing with three wickets in four balls! MHS were all out for 38, the first half of our job brilliantly done in just 10 overs. The march forward then became more difficult. Marlborough House bowled fast and well on a tricky wicket and we suffered setbacks as Henry E and Charlie S’s wickets were taken. Riding to the rescue was Corporal Jemima, who batted through, scoring 24 of the required runs with a fabulous and gutsy knock. Private Powell contributed sensibly, making advances through the off-side in particular, and it was left to Lieutenant General Henry P to smash the winning runs in the 12th over. A win by 7 wickets was followed by a lovely tea with the Marlborough House boys and an early afternoon to get back to the CE revision!
