Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U9C vs  Rose Hill School
On: Thursday, 23 May 2019
Venue: at Home

The U9Cs took on the Rose Hill U8As who had suddenly lost a fixture. As we were free as well, and Sevenoaks not having enough boys for three teams, we gladly stepped up to the challenge. Fielding first showed our improvement. The bowlers bowled better as a unit, with fewer extras than the week before, and not only were we awake and ready to put ourselves in the line of the ball but, when the ball raced past us, we adjusted our positions wisely. Nobody did this more than Charlie M in his wicket-keeping spell. Chasing 64, we were off to a brisk start but some excellent bowling from Rose Hill pegged us back. When ‘the closers’ (Charlie and Justin) strode to the wicket, we needed 23 off 16 balls. 2 biffed fours later made the equation look a great deal better and some careful running saw us 2 ahead with 3 balls left. Then confusion: was there a run off the last ball or not, both batsmen out of their ground. The ball in the fielders arm. The arm drawn back. Not defeat dragged from the jaws of victory? ‘No’ cried Charlie. Back Justin went. Victory secure.
