Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U11A vs  Sutton Valence Preparatory School
On: Wednesday, 15 May 2019
Venue: at Home

The game against Sutton Valence gave us a chance to immediately 'bounce back' after the previous day's narrow loss. SV chose to bat and made a cautious start after early success for Ed M and Orlando S. Their number 3 batsman took up the challenge and smashed 46, supported by a few more lusty blows from their middle order. The Saint Ronan's extras column was too busy for my liking and the final total of 144 seemed like a formidable target. This was made even more unlikely when Ed was run out in the second over. Ned T (35) and Orlando S (36) batted superbly together but fell in quick succession, leaving us needing 43 runs off the last five overs. That brought Matthew G-R to the crease who initially found it hard to make any meaningful contact with the ball. With nothing to lose, he freed his arms and suddenly the runs began to flow. Three consecutive fours brought us back into the contest and, when Bruno H scored 7 runs off the 19th over, we needed six off the last for an unlikely win. Matthew clearly decided this was not going to be achieved in singles and lofted the first delivery over mid-wicket for a six, giving Saint Ronan's a 7 wicket win! Man of the Match: Matthew G-R.
