Saint Ronan's School Girls-U12A vs  U12 Tournament
On: Wednesday, 05 Jun 2019
Venue: Away

The girls enjoyed a full afternoon of cricket at the DCPS tournament, competing against 12 teams which were divided into 4 groups. We won the Plate last year so were keen to make our mark again. We started well against SVS, winning comfortably 153-120. Everyone played their part, but particular highlights included a wicket bowled by Freya G and a super catch taken by Floss S. Floss also scored the only 6 of the game. Florence S and Lettice A were our most successful batting pair, scoring 24 between them. Claremont were next on the list. They put us in to bat first so we worked hard to set a good target for them to chase. After a slightly nervous start, the runs gradually started to build. Things really took off when Freya G and Mathilda F came into bat, scoring 3 sixes and a total of 34 runs. Lotty C and Bea W wrapped things up in style with a flurry of fours and sixes, adding 44 to give us a total of 192. Claremont did their best to chase but were unable to find any space to exploit runs. We took 5 wickets – catches were taken by Bea W (x2) and Lettice A and Bea also took a wicket directly from her bowling. A smart bit of quick fielding and an accurate throw to the stumps led to the 5th wicket falling. As winners of our group, we then faced the winner of one of the other groups in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, it transpired to be the U11A team who had also successfully won their group! With a lot at stake for both teams, and plenty of friendly rivalry, it was game on! The U11 underdogs played superbly, with everyone in the team fielding and batting consistently. We lost 5 wickets (-25 runs) thanks to some amazing catches by Ruby A, solid bowling from Kitty F, and great fielding on the boundary by Rachel B. This cost us dearly and we were unable to set a good enough target, scoring only 32 runs. The U11s batted to win, hitting some fantastic balls over the boundary. We unfortunately fumbled a few potential catches and they won the game 151-132. This marked the end of our afternoon and was a difficult defeat to swallow but we enjoyed getting behind the U11 girls, who progressed into the final against Ashford Prep. Well done to Bea W, Freya G, Lettice A, Charlotte P, Mathilda F, Floss Sh, Florence S, Eleanor S and Lotty C. Well played, girls.
