Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls-U13A vs  Claremont Preparatory School
On: Wednesday, 15 May 2019
Venue: Away

Finally, we played cricket as it is meant to be played – in glorious sunshine. A marked improvement on last Wednesday’s weather! We put Claremont in to bat first and started well in the field. Our bowling has improved considerably. We gave away only a couple of runs for wide balls, and Emily H and Honor W both took wickets. Claremont batted well and made the most of the small boundary, scoring plenty of 6s and 4s. Any balls hit high off the bat were impossible to contain, as there was no depth to the field. Claremont finished with a total of 277. Unfortunately, this afternoon’s cricket wasn’t our finest with the bat and we were slightly giddy following a morning of French orals. The girls have learned a lesson in focus and mental preparation whilst sitting waiting to bat and the importance of supporting those out on the pitch; having an awareness of how the team is doing/runs scored etc. and being ready to play your part to the best of your ability. Claremont bowled well, but we failed to take advantage of balls that could have been hit beyond the boundary. Daisy E (who managed a 6) and Martha R scored 10 runs, but lost 5 runs when a decision to run back fired. Phoebe C and Honor W added 9 runs thanks to a couple of 4s hit by Honor. Emily H and Rosie S helped lift the score further with 15 runs, again managing a couple of 4s. However we’d left ourselves far too much to do, with only one pair left to bat. Thankfully Georgie A and Ruby B concluded the game with the type of batting we are more used to producing, scoring 23 runs (Georgie a 6) but unfortunately lost 5 for a wicket. Our final total was 246, some 30 runs short of Claremont’s total. With the very small boundary, we should have been able to chase their score. However, Claremont were focused and took the game seriously, deserving the win. Well done. Players of the Match: Batter Georgie A; Bowler: Emily H/Honor W.
