Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls-U13A vs  Holmewood House School
On: Wednesday, 22 May 2019
Venue: Away

The girls took to the pitch excited to play rounders again. We enjoyed a lovely game with Holmewood House, our teams evenly-matched. We were put in to bat first. Unfortunately we didn’t get off to the best of starts; some suicide running from captain Ruby B meant she was out after the first ball, swiftly followed by Georgie A, who was caught. It was left to the rest of the team to steady the ship and try and score some points! As we settled into the innings, rounders followed from Phoebe C and Alicia S, as well as a series of half rounders from Evie S, Rosie S, Emil H and Amelie G. We finished the innings on 5.5. We took to the field knowing that we had to keep things slick in order to prevent scoring opportunities for HH. Ruby B fielded reliably at 2nd deep, and Alicia was solid on 2nd base. Evie S and Emily H established a good partnership as bowler and backstop. We contained the HH batters well, but some unforced errors and panicked decision-making cost us 2 rounders as the innings closed, allowing HH to finish on 7.5. Back in to bat, we needed to hit well. Two more rounders and 5 half rounders boosted our score to 10. Knowing this may not be enough, we had to field tightly to prevent HH from chasing. In the second innings, HH had found their rhythm with the bat and hit very well. Despite our best efforts, we were not able to prevent the inevitable half rounders which combined to give them a comfortable lead. Final score SRS 10 – HH 16. Player of the Match: batter – Phoebe C; fielder – Ruby B. Well done.
