Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U11A vs  Marlborough House School
On: Wednesday, 27 Mar 2019
Venue: at Home

There is a natural tendency to evaluate the progress of a team over the course of a season by comparing the first match to the final game. There should be evidence of greater understanding and execution of both individual roles and team strategy. This would have been clear to see for anyone watching the contest against Marlborough House. The game was initially a rather fraught mid-field battle but Ed M showed good composure and vision, passing the ball into wide channels and we began to exploit the space. Alex P, Bruno H and Patrick H linked up well with Ned T, who worked tirelessly up front. Matthew G-R and Tom T kept things under control at the back and Charlie F made two incredible saves. The second save, a reflex reaction with his stick, thrust out to deflect a firm shot that seemed destined for the corner of the goal. Ned scored two, showing nice composure in finishing, having broken free of the defenders. The moment of the game, however, belonged to Ed M. Alex made an excellent run down the right, slipped a short pass inside to Ed, who neatly beat the defender, dragging the ball onto his reverse stick side. We all knew he was going to try it and boy, did it come off! A powerful lifted shot 'fizzed' through the air, beating the goalkeeper high above his right shoulder. It was a moment of brilliance and sealed the season off with a touch of class. Man of the Match: Ed M.
