Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U12A vs  Holmewood House School
On: Wednesday, 23 Jan 2019
Venue: Away

Scintillating tries from Jasper (2), Arthur, Kit and Barnaby capped off an excellent U12A performance at Holmewood House. We started very strongly, putting in our best half of the season. Playing an ambitious and entertaining running style (despite cries of ‘kick it!’ from the nervous Dads on the touchline) we raced into a 2-0 lead. Whenever Holmewood House had possession, we tackled fiercely, knocking them back and counter-rucking accurately. These counter-rucks provided wonderful attacking ball and scrumhalf Kit made the most of it. Barnaby, at flyhalf, shared the ball widely and further out Jaxson and Henry linked well with the inside supporting runners. Hector fielded from fullback superbly, while also rucking strongly when required. Jack carried the ball beautifully in two hands, taking it forward and keeping the defence guessing, before passing skilfully to ready teammates. Arthur was delighted to score his first try. I overheard the Holmewood House coach telling his boys ‘You're chasing shadows!’ and credit to them for turning the game around in the second half. We needed to look after possession more possessively, and we fell off a few tackles as we began to tire, both physically and mentally. Holmewood won 7-5. Nevertheless, we had been to the mountaintop; we now need time to acclimatise to that great height.
