Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls U9 Sky vs  Marlborough House School
On: Thursday, 07 Feb 2019
Venue: at Home

We had a tough battle on our hands, finishing the season against MHS. We were also without Daisy A, who has been so solid in defence for the team. In the first quarter, MHS wasted no time in asserting themselves in attack. We were immediately put under pressure and were unable to clear the ball out of danger. MHS pilled on the pressure in the D and were rewarded with 3 goals. Undeterred, we fought back, trying to move the ball wide and pass into space. Our determination paid off, with a super goal from Freya B. In the second quarter, possession was more balanced. We were more confident in closing down the ball and more assertive at winning back possession. However, MHS were able to build a couple of successful attacks, scoring twice. We replied with a nice goal of our own (Alice M) to take the scores to 5-2 at half time. We continued to show improvement as the match progressed, connecting some passes and trying to work together as a team. Michelle VDB, Izzy A and Jessica T made some fine tackles in defence and tried to open play out to the wings. Alice M, Athena M and Molly Z held the fort in mid-field, building some lovely attacking play as well as chasing back to defend. Freya B held her position up front and sent some hearty balls flying towards the goal. We held MHS to just one goal in the 3rd quarter, before winning the final quarter 2-1. Well done! Final score was 7-4 to MHS. Player of the Match: Alice M.
