Another super display of netball against the MHS girls. We played each other before Christmas and were keen to prove our worth by clinching victory for the second time. As always, the 1st quarter was a little erratic and saw us finding our feet and getting the measure of our opposition and the pace of the game. MHS took the lead 6-5 and the game was on! As things evolved, we settled into our rhythm and the goals started to flow. However, MHS weren’t about to make things easy for us and the end-to-end action meant that everyone had to be ready to execute their roles, making as few unforced errors as possible. This they did and we began to dominate more of the possession. We pulled ahead 11-8 at the end of the 2nd quarter, to create a small but significant lead. MHS changed their tactics in the 3rd quarter and were on to the strategy - used so well by Jemima S (WA) and Martha R (C) - of feeding the ball over the top to Georgie A (GS) by the post. The girls kept their calm and adapted well, working the ball around the circle edge whilst looking for an opportunity to break up the MHS defence and feed the ball in. Emily H and Georgie A worked hard to find the space and angles to improve their shooting positions around the post. Both shooters popped the ball through the hoop beautifully. At the other end, Ruby B was true to her form, sticking to her partner like glue and committed to every interception. She shows remarkable speed and agility in defence, making life very difficult for the opposition’s GA. Evie S (GK) was also solid, making some excellent interceptions in the D and preventing MHS from converting valuable shooting opportunities. Hope R (WD) always reads the game superbly and rarely lets the ball pass her, converting possession for the team on many occasions. A wonderful game in very cold conditions. The girls should be very proud of the standard they have achieved. MHS chose Martha R as Player of the Match but the coach’s choice is the whole team, as every one of them contributed to the success of the match. Final score 16-12 to SRS. Well done.
