U9 5 a side tournament at Sevenoaks

Drew 2, lost 3

Ollie H, Olly B, Max Y, Will M, George R and Theo P took to the stage at Sevenoaks for their first ever indoor tournament. It was encouraging to see the boys playing to the final whistle, never giving up. The boys learned much from the afternoon, especially in defence. Theo P was outstanding at the back, making some covering tackles. Going forward was promising, but with the heavy ball, shots from a distance were not going to work. Our first match was against Yardley Court (the champions of the day), who managed to get three goals in the back of the net. Errors at the back cost us there, with the midfield not getting back behind the ball quick enough. The second match was more promising against Russell House: we scored two early goals, only to let two late goals in, again due to defensive discipline. 0-2 against St Michael's and 0-3 against Solefields was a learning curve for us and in our last match, against Radnor House (runners up), we had nothing to lose and our objective of getting behind the ball when in defence was better. We went up 1-0 with a minute to spare, with a wonderfully created goal by Olly B’s cross and a tap in at the far post by Will M. However, this was quickly eradicated by Radnor. All in all it was an afternoon of reflection and learning, but most of all experience - and fun -for the team. Well done.
