Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U11A vs  Sevenoaks School 5 a-side tournament
On: Friday, 21 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

On Friday the Colts A team took part in the Sevenoaks School 5-a-side indoor football tournament. Games were 8 min one way, fast and furious. The first two matches against Radnor House and Solefield were both drawn despite St Ronan’s having the better of the games. By the time we took on Yardley Court we had a clearer understanding of our ‘shape’ and managed to maintain more possession, despite the frantic nature of the format. Matthew G-R was proving very hard to beat in goal and Ed M began to control the game from centre back. Ned T scored the only goal after a nice pass from Alex P. Our first win. Next up were a strong St Michaels team. We played our best football in this game. Passing was firm and accurate and we did not over-commit in the midfield. Ned put us ahead with a strong turn around the defender and a ‘snap shot’ found the bottom left corner. Matthew then made a great save, flying off his line, closing down the shooting angle, denying the center-forward an equalizer. Then followed our most clinical passage of play. Ed received a pass into the midfield from Orlando S who had drifted wide on the right. He quickly switched play to Wilby W out on the left, who controlled nicely and drilled a low cross to the far post where Orlando, having looped around the defender, lunged to deflect the ball into the net! It was worthy of any highlights package. The final match against an outstanding Russell House was a tense affair. We dropped into a ‘half-court-press’ when they had possession and the lack of space frustrated their mid-field and gave us the chance to counter attack. However, neither team could capitalize on their chances and a fair 0 – 0 draw brought the day to a close. Saint Ronan’s finished second, by just one point in the league table. What a great way to start the week-end! Player of the tournament: Ned T.
