Match Report
Saint Ronan's School 5th XI vs  Ashdown House

Venue: at Home

This crazy but entertaining match and made fantastic viewing, especially if you were a neutral, and definitely worth paying the entrance fee for. The score could have been 7-7 but the woodwork played a major part at both ends. Charlie B, who was influential throughout the match, was clean through but his shot hit the crossbar, rebounded and AH counter-attacked and scored. This was how the match panned out. AH then hit the post and should have been 2 goals up but Chester R had other ideas and scored with a powerful strike, to make the score 1-1 at half time. AH had the advantage of playing downhill in the second half and soon were deservedly 2-1 up, with a shot which came off the crossbar and into the goal. Chester R then scored his second, with an accurate shot into the far corner, after a great through ball from Gethan T, who worked ferociously all match and was rightly named Man of the Match by the coach at AH. Then there was a period of end to end football but both defences were determined not to concede. However, with 10 minutes left, AH scored, squeezing the ball off the inside of the post into the corner of the net. Was that the final nail in the coffin for SRS? No way. With a few minutes left on the clock, Charlie B scored with a determined stretched-out toe poke, with the ball slowly crawling over the line. So 3 -3 it finished and well played, both sides. It was nice to see both teams exhausted by their efforts but very happy.
