Match Report
Saint Ronan's School 1st XI vs  New Beacon 7's
On: Saturday, 29 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

After what has been a very impressive undefeated season thus far, we were put to the test in a 6 a side tournament at New Beacon. Joe F had started the day off well, having already done his 5km run, wanting to up his fitness. Very keen indeed! Our first match against Yardley Court was one way traffic, especially in the first half, creating numerous chances but not finishing it off. Henry C, in goal, kept us in the match in the second half with some amazing saves. A 0-0 draw gave us 1pt. Solefield was second up and again we created many opportunities, 1-1 with the keeper, striking the post and no goals. One chance for Solefield, which they capitalized on. A 0-1 loss, undeservedly. A similar result against Hazlewood meant that we had to beat DCPS by a fair margin to have a chance of getting through. DCPS, who got through to the final, took the lead at the end of the first half but the boys battled on and managed to scramble a goal to level it up. We finished on 3 pts, which was not enough to go through to the knockout stages. Everyone contributed: Archie W and Tom H controlled the midfield well, moving the ball off and slowing down the opposition. Arthur E persevered and continues to makes strides, which is easy for him with those long limbs! Jamie and Arthur worked constantly on and off the ball, until red in the face, and Archie T continued to be a rock in defence. A very tough afternoon for the boys but they should be proud of their efforts.
