Saint Ronan's School Girls 1st VII vs  U13 EGHA Tournament
On: Wednesday, 14 Nov 2018
Venue: Away

The 1st VII ended their season at the annual Prep Schools' tournament, held for the first time at Hurstpierpoint. The girls were in a buoyant mood after a strong run of results in the domestic season, but under no illusions as to the challenge posed by some strong sides in our group. For all but one of our team, this was a first taste of tournament hockey: short games, low scoring, high intensity and the likelihood that lapses of concentration will go punished. Defensively, we were solid all day, never conceding more than one goal in our 6 matches, which was an impressive achievement. We found it harder at the attacking end and space was at a premium against some very well-organised teams. We managed just two goals, both scored by Jemima S. The first was a clever finish, from the tightest of angles, to beat Brambletye 1-0. The second was a lovely clean strike into the corner, versus Lingfield, which would have secured another win but for conceding an equaliser a heart-breaking five seconds before the hooter. So we ended the day mid-table, having won and drawn against the best two teams in the group and with plenty to ponder. The girls behaved impeccably throughout the day and were a true credit to the school, both on and off the pitch. Team: Charlotte P, Lettice A, Georgie A, Ruby B, Mathilda F, Jemima S, Emily H, Martha R, Evie VB.
