Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls 2nd VII vs  Vinehall School
On: Wednesday, 19 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

A lively match, with Vinehall emerging victorious thanks mainly to some feisty defending throughout the game. In the first half we were camped in their circle for long periods but lacked the final touch to unlock their defence and get the ball past the keeper. Some invention was needed here in our positional play in front of goal. The defence was solid, and Eleanor S was also able to launch a number of counter-attacks down the right. Some incisive passing from Hope R in the middle, and plenty of industry from the others, provided a number of opportunities for us to threaten but we still couldn’t quite make that vital breakthrough. Vinehall then came back into it and scored from a short corner, then quickly followed up with a second, as we fatally gave the ball away at the top of our own circle. The girls responded well, though, and we finished the game with a series of attacking short corners. With the final play of the game, Mathilda F rifled the ball in from an acute angle, having taken up a great position on the left post. Player of the Match: Eleanor S
