Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls-U13A vs  Marlborough House School
On: Wednesday, 28 Nov 2018
Venue: Away

The girls played a fantastic game against MHS in wet and blustery conditions. We started strong, whipping the ball up to our shooters and scoring twice within the first couple of minutes. MHS were quick to respond and replied with 3 goals of their own, to lead the first quarter 3-2. Taking into account the conditions, and the wet slippery ball, we changed our game plan going forwards with the aims of keeping possession, keeping passes short and tight and generally slowing down our play. We treasured the ball, with some super play from defence through the centre of the court. Shooters Emily H and Georgie A held their nerve, pulling us back to take the lead at half time by one goa,l 6-5. We went from strength to strength in the remaining two quarters. Our agility and desire to win and chase every ball was clear for all to see. We pulled away 10-7 and then took the match in the final quarter, 13-7. Martha R was MHS’s Player of the Match for her superb work at Centre. However, this week it is impossible to single out any one player, as it was such a superb team effort from end to end. Evie S (GK) marked tightly, making some excellent interceptions to convert possession; Ruby B was as dynamic and committed as ever, hustling and chasing every ball (taking some tumbles in the process but somehow bouncing back up to play on); Hope R made some excellent interceptions and played a key role in moving the ball out of our defending half. Martha R commanded the role of Centre, driving well for every ball and using every inch of space on the court. Jemima S was agile and athletic at WA, winning every SRS centre pass and providing a reliable link to the shooters. Finally, Georgie A and Emily H shared the positions of GA and GS. Both performed their roles beautifully and are developing an effective relationship around the post. A great result, girls, and such a pleasure to watch you play at this level. Well done.
