Saint Ronan's School Boys-U11A vs  U11A Tournament
On: Wednesday, 11 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

The U11A team played in the Hilden Grange Tournament on Friday. This format gave us the opportunity to play four matches and establish our team 'starting point' for the season.

The first match against Yardley Court finished 0 - 0. This was a tough contest and while we struggled to keep the ball in attack, the defense stood firm. Jacob G, Ethan H were solid at the back and Eddie B made a few smart saves. A 0-1 loss to Hazelwood showed the importance of taking early opportunities. Some good attacking build-up gave us a few chances but we could not convert. Freddie S combined nicely with Oscar B and Max M and we began to hold possession of the ball for longer. Sevenoaks proved to be just as tough a match as the opening two games. Levi R worked hard on the right and Jacob gave us more control in the mid-field. The goal, albeit rather fortunate, came from a determined run by Oscar D, who smashed a cross from the left touchline. The ball was spilled by the keeper and we had our goal! A win seemed in our grasp until, in the final minute, a long goal kick was misjudged and the Sevenoaks striker drew the scores level. Hilden Grange proved too strong in the cross pool match. Their passing was more assured, and despite a magnificent save by Eddie early on, they continued to create chances and eventually found the net. So we finished with two draws and two losses - but much clearer about what we need to work on to improve!
