Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U13B vs  Bethany School
On: Wednesday, 11 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

The prospect of playing against an Old Ronian and good friend, Billy, was the source of much excitement as the U13B team travelled to Bethany for their Wednesday afternoon football match. Bethany were significantly stronger in the first half. They controlled the ball more skillfully and ran with more purpose and speed. We conceded corner after corner and, with super crosses each time, Bethany had golden opportunities to score. However, a combination of brave goalkeeping from Matthew GR and poor finishing from Bethany, kept us in the match. It also helped when our only venture into their half was rewarded with a penalty, which saw Bruno put the ball neatly into the net. At half time we were down 1-2, although it could have been 1-6! In the second half the breeze was behind us and we played better by being energetic, purposeful and direct. Attacking up the right, Bruno’s cross was curled in by the wind to make it 2-2. A very fast Bethany striker then put them back in the lead, but this was followed by the goal of the day. After a good build up, another dangerous cross from Bruno was skillfully volleyed into the goal by Wilby – magic! Although there were no further goals, the final minutes were fantastic! The final score was fair reflection of the match, 3-3. It was particularly lovely to see our boys lifting their game for each other in the second half; the strong spirit bodes well.
