Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls 1st VII vs  Dulwich Prep Cranbrook
On: Wednesday, 25 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

A great game against a strong Dulwich team and, despite being beaten, it would be difficult to remember a better performance from a SRS 1st VII team in recent years. Dulwich pressed hard early and went two goals up, having caught our defence a bit too square at the back. However we came back into it straight away, Izzy S scoring twice from close range (now her trademark) whilst Dulwich got one more, a little fortuitously after an unlucky bounce had eluded our defence. The second half was end to end hockey, with neither team giving an inch. We had the better of the attacking play, and some of our passing from defence to attack was brilliant. Molly S produced the best run of the match, having dispossessed the Dulwich player in her own D to run the length of the pitch to win a short corner. In midfield Matilda F, Freya G and Izzy S ran and closed down the opposition tirelessly, but had the energy to get forward in numbers when we had possession. Lotty C ran unselfishly behind the Dulwich defence all match. Charlotte P, in goal, blocked and kicked powerfully, whilst strong tackling at the back from Lettice A and Eleanor S provided the launchpad for a number of effective counter-attacks. Matilda F’s bloodied knees at the end symbolised the overall team effort. Player of the Match: Lettice A (as voted by the Dulwich girls) but this week they all deserve it! Well done.
