Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Girls U9 Navy vs  Vinehall School
On: Thursday, 17 Jan 2019
Venue: Away

Having watched the Sky team play, the Navy team took to the pitch against the same Vinehall team. We started very tentatively and allowed Vinehall to charge straight through us towards the goal and score. This happened several times, with Vinehall running rings around us, before some initiative on our part kicked in and we realised we needed to protect and defend our goal with a greater sense of urgency and determination! Eventually we found the courage to close Vinehall down and tackle but tended to give up if we didn’t win the ball, rather than chase back to try and tackle again. There were some promising moments of play, when Jessica T got the ball out on the wing, but all too often she had no one to support her or to pass to. Aurelia D managed to clear the ball with more power towards the end of the game; Rose L got stuck in; winning the ball back on several occasions; and, after a change of position, Marianne P was the saving grace in defence. Much to work on, with everyone needing to be more game-aware and assertive on the pitch – attacking the opposition’s space and goal in one direction but protecting and defending our space and goal in the other. Player of the Match: Marianne P
