Match Report
Saint Ronan's School Boys-U13A vs  Sutton Valence School
On: Wednesday, 05 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

The lads were certainly fired up for this encounter, as I found out in the warm up when Humphrey B knocked me backwards hard whilst I was pretending to be a tackle bag! This was a great game of rugby as both sides wanted to play with ball in hand. The only kick was near the end, when the ball was punted into touch, giving both teams a breather. The match was played at a high tempo, with ferocious tackling, especially from Archie T who led the team by example, Humphrey and Arthur B, Jamie P, Theo B and Jack B. We didn’t start well, after knocking on, and from the resulting scrum, SV scored in the corner on our own 5 meter line. SRS didn’t take long to reply, with Humphrey B sprinting up the middle and then cleverly off-loading in the tackle to Archie W, who took the ball at pace and was unstoppable. One try each. SRS were then to take the lead when Arthur G positioned himself on the wing and scored after the forwards and backs had linked up well. Thereafter, both defences were rock solid and no more tries were scored, giving SRS a 10-5 lead. The second half started with SV on top but SRS held firm, making the big hits then getting back on their feet and being ready to defend again. SV eventually scored a deserved try, making the score tied at 10-10 with now only 5 minutes to go. But SRS were not to be denied and scored a well-worked try, with the backs and forwards linking up well, going through the phrases, keeping possession and waiting for a rare gap to appear. It did, thanks to a great pass from Marcus H, which allowed Archie W again to run on to the ball at speed - and the rest is history. That was the final try, leaving SRS victorious 15-10. Well done to both sides for providing a spectacular exhibition of rugby. Man of the Match: Archie Wilson
